ROC takes student attendance seriously, not only because we are educators, but because employers consistently tell us this is one of the top “soft skills” which we can instill in entry-level workers.
For that reason our mission statement states “Students are provided with the opportunities to develop … workplace skills and behaviors,” and our Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’s) explicitly set a student attendance goal.
It is also why the school recognizes perfect monthly attendance with the entire school administrative team visiting each class to acknowledge students in front of their peers and to present them with a certificate for a free drink from the snack bar (courtesy of ASB).
The message from teachers and administrators is clear: “treat ROC like a real job.” In addition to adding the accomplishment to their professional resume, students also have their photo displayed in the cases at the front of the school and on the school website (below). Those who finish the semester with perfect attendance will be treated to a special luncheon in December.
Congratulations to our September honorees: 316 students, over 30% of our student body, reached this milestone. Zero absences – zero tardies – zero excuses. Ready to work every day.
